We took a red eye and arrived in DC at some ridiculous hour like 5 am to a city soaked due to pouring rain! We took the bus to the metro station…here I am sleeping on public transit…looking a bit like a hobo.
When we arrived at our hotel around 9am the desk attendant told us our room wouldn't be ready until 12ish so in spite of the pouring rain and the fact that most of the tourist attractions were closed due to the government shut down, I changed in the lobby bathroom and we headed out on an adventure.
The subways in DC were so clean, after experiencing the metro in New York I was amazed!
Me and Kendra out adventuring in the rain.
We got to see the Iwo Jima memorial, this is really cool, as you walk around the statue it appears the solders are raising the flag. The spirit I felt of gratitude and patriotism was breathtaking.
Arlington cemetery was closed but we got a peak from the street!
Last stop was the Washington monument, beautiful even in the rain. On crazy fact about DC that I didn't know was that people are crazy, I saw more than on person out running in the torrential downpour that finally drove us back to our hotel to dry out.
Crazy humidity hair!
The next day after some exciting workshops we headed to Mt. Vernon for a tour. The entire estate was beautiful!
Seriously gorgeous views with tree lined lawns all around.

That evening we went downtown Washington DC for a "taste of DC" a fair where you could sample foods from many popular DC restaurants." It's all so charming!

This like so many other buildings were closed due to the government shut down.
